HOW TO COMPETE IN MASTERS BOXING

In order to compete as a master boxer, you must first be ages 35 and older and have no prior pro experience in any combat sport (Boxing, Kickboxing, MMA, and so on). You must have an up to date yellow USA Boxing Passbook in order to compete in any USA Boxing sanctioned masters event. To obtain a yellow passbook you must first pass a yearly physical with those ages 45 and older, you also need to pass an exercise EKG. Your doctor must clear you as fit to box (link to form below). You will also need to register as a master boxer with USA Boxing (link to register is below). Once you complete the registration process online, it will give you name, address and contact information to your local boxing commission, and what paperwork you will need to send them in order to get your passbook. Once this is complete you will normally get your passbook within 2 to 3 weeks, depending on how busy the LBC (local boxing commission) is during that time. Once you have your passbook, make sure you carry with you, your physical result that your doctor signed and says Fit to Box.

THINGS TO KNOW WHEN COMPETING AS A MASTER

Now you are ready to compete as a master boxer. You have your passbook and your physical and you just entered a tournament or event, now what?

Things that you are required to have are as follows.
Attire: boxing top, boxing trunks (your trunks waste line has to be different than the color of your top), boxing shoes, a mouthpiece (cannot have the color red on it), hand wraps and tape, USA Boxing masters approved headgear. The only two companies that sell master headgear is Title and Ringside, links to their headgear are below.

The gloves will always be provided by the event. If the event is asking you to bring gloves then it’s an event you want to avoid. If you are traveling to an event and your coach can not travel with you, let the event coordinator know ahead of time so they can provide a certified coach to work your corner.

Rounds will be between 1 minute to 2 minutes long with a 1 minute rest period in between each round. You will be competing in 16oz gloves with most events using the Novice 0-10 bouts and Open 11 or more bouts to create matches. The goal is to match everyone as close in age, weight, and experience as possible.

SUBMIT YOUR PROFILE

We are trying to make it easier for masters to find opponents and we need your help. We are creating profiles for master boxers to make it easier to who is competing at your age, weight, and experience. We ask that you take the time to submit your profile as it will help you and potential opponents.
